Telpaugu karantīna

Telpaugu quarantine

Plant quarantine means that we separate the plant from other plants, it is best if it can be done in another room where there is no plant, but it can also be in the far corner of the room or on a windowsill or surface where no other plant will be nearby.

A very good way that I recently started using is to put the plant in a clear zip bag. And then you can place the plant with the other plants and you don't need to set aside a separate place for quarantine, but it only works for small plants that you can put in a bag. This method will also help to maintain higher air humidity, which is very important for the plant to grow well and take root.

🪴First of all, as a preventive measure, we quarantine all new plants for at least 2 weeks, preferably 1 month, because you never know if the new plant is free of any pests. Even plants that look healthy at the time of purchase and do not show any signs of pests should be kept separately, because it is possible that there are no adults on the plant, but there may be eggs and then the new pests will appear on the plant only after some time.
It is really very important to observe this, otherwise you can live in a large infestation of pests and then fighting it will be many times more difficult.

🪴Secondly, we also keep all plants that have already been detected in quarantine as long as the pests are controlled and for at least another 2 weeks to be sure that we can rule out that there are no pest eggs on the plant that will hatch again later.

I remind you that I had a whole series of articles on pest control, I recommend that you read and save it.

🪴Thirdly, we keep the plants that have been outside in the summer in quarantine and separate them from others, for at least 2 weeks, but ideally for a month. Because the plant may have attracted pests while it has been outside. It should be remembered that the nasty thrips flies, so he could easily get to the plants even if they were on the balcony.

I hope that this article made you better understand in which cases the plant should be kept in quarantine.
